This offer includes a tested Second Life motor for suitable VELUX SSL solar roller shutters in the V21 series with io-homecontrol. It uses a genuine used VELUX motor and electronics unit from the previous 10.8 V system generation. The motor is fitted with a new 10.8 V NiMH battery pack and a new modified solar panel with an original connector.

This offer is only for VELUX SSL V21 solar roller shutters with io-homecontrol or compatible 868 MHz radio technology. This generation can be found from around 2006 onwards. As V21 was produced over an extended period with different technical and radio variants, the year of manufacture alone does not reliably establish compatibility.Photos and identification plates must therefore be checked before purchase. Older V21 versions with different radio technology are excluded.
Alternative to repair or complete conversion
The existing faulty motor is replaced with a tested original VELUX V21 motor and electronics unit with io-homecontrol. This option is particularly suitable when the motor or electronics can no longer be repaired economically, but you want to retain the proven 10.8 V system generation.

The older VELUX 10.8 V drive technology is high-quality and designed for many years of use. Instead of discarding a functioning original motor platform, it is checked, reconditioned and reused with new power-supply components.

Pairing after installation
As the Second Life motor has different radio and control electronics, it normally needs to be paired again with your existing remote control or smart home system after installation. The previous radio pairing is not transferred to the replacement motor.

What does S21 or V21 mean on a VELUX SSL solar roller shutter?
The designations S21 and V21 refer to the older generation of VELUX SSL solar roller shutters preceding the S22/V22 series. However, this generation included different technical versions. Exact compatibility therefore cannot be determined from the V21 designation or year of manufacture alone.From which year were V21 models available with io-homecontrol?
VELUX SSL motors with io-homecontrol or the corresponding 868 MHz radio technology can be found from around 2006 onwards. This date is only a guide, however. Particularly with older V21 systems, the actual motor and radio generation should be checked using the identification plate, motor reference and photos.Are all V21 motors technically identical?
No. Different motor and electronic versions were used within the V21 generation. These include older versions with a 10.8 V NiMH battery pack, in which the DC motor itself is controlled via two wires and its direction is reversed by changing polarity. Later versions may have a different internal design.Does the V21 replacement solar panel also fit older V21 shutters?
It may do. The decisive factors are not just the year of manufacture or radio generation, but the existing 10.8 V NiMH technology, solar charging circuit, connector, polarity and mechanical installation. A weakened solar panel may be unable to recharge a new battery sufficiently. If only the battery is replaced, it may therefore suffer deep discharge again. If operating time is short, discharge keeps recurring or operation is irregular, the solar panel should always be checked alongside the 10.8 V NiMH battery.Which battery technology do these older VELUX SSL motors use?
The solutions offered here are for the older system generation with a 10.8 V NiMH battery pack. This includes the well-known VELUX battery reference 946933. Different or newer battery systems must be checked separately.Is the current 4.5 V motor generation also suitable?
No. The newer VELUX motor platform with a short black 4.5 V solar panel and a modified motor/battery system belongs to a different system generation and is not currently covered by these repair and Second Life offers.Are these original VELUX spare parts?
The motor and electronics units used in the Second Life programme are genuine used and tested VELUX components. The battery pack and modified solar panel are compatible replacement parts. The solar panel is fitted with an original VELUX connector.Which photos are needed for the compatibility check?
Please send photos of the identification plate on the bottom shutter slat, the complete motor label, the existing solar panel, the connector and plug connections, and, if possible, the installation itself. For older S21/V21 systems in particular, these photos allow much more reliable identification.
