The electronic Somfy motor

The Oximo, Ilmo and ILT motor series belong to the electronically controlled tubular drives with automatic limit-stop detection. They can operate with either freely parameterised fixed limit positions or torque-based stop positions. This ensures quiet, precise and material-protecting operation.

These motors also feature intelligent protection systems such as frost detection and obstacle detection, reliably preventing damage to the roller shutter or the motor itself.

Especially noteworthy is the Somfy ILT – a motor equipped with EIB (European Installation Bus), later known as KNX. This bus system allows integration into complex building automation setups. Since these motors are no longer produced and suitable replacements are expensive or hard to find, repairing them is often the most economical and sustainable solution.

 

Advantages compared to purchasing a new motor

  • Cost-effective: Repair is cheaper than buying new, and no conversion or new control system is required.

  • Also for ILT models: Repair is often possible even when specific replacement parts are required. The higher effort is justified to avoid costly system conversions within an existing EIB/KNX installation.

 

This repair applies to the following fault patterns

  • Roller shutter lowers normally but only rises again with manual assistance
  • Motor runs, hums or responds with delay
  • Noticeable “click” sound during direction change

 

Repair procedure

  • Order: Select the appropriate motor model and complete the order.
  • Shipping: Send in the defective motor, properly packed (shipping costs borne by the customer).

  • Repair: Professional repair within 1–2 business days.
  • Return shipment: Return shipping is generally possible, but only at standard parcel rates if the motor is packed securely, compactly and transport-safe. For oversized or unsuitable packaging (e.g. tube packaging or bulky boxes), I reserve the right to charge additional return shipment costs.

 

Processing & shipping times

  • The motor is repaired no later than the next business day after arrival.
  • Return shipment usually takes place within the following business day.
  • Processing time may vary depending on platform and shipping method; exact information is provided when the order is placed.

 

Important prerequisites

  • Repair only for selected Somfy models (see variants)
  • No repair possible in case of total damage (e.g. water damage, burnt windings, defective gearbox or brake, or surge damage)
  • The motor must not have been opened or tampered with

 

Product safety and quality

All repairs are carried out according to the relevant safety standards and ensure proper motor function. Any changes to the house installation must be carried out exclusively by qualified electricians.

 

Service & extras

On request, I provide a loan cable for setting or resetting the motor. Please contact me in advance.

 

Warranty

A statutory warranty of 2 years applies exclusively to the installed replacement parts.
No warranty is provided for the entire motor or any other components.

    Troubleshooting Promise for Tubular Motors

    Is your tubular motor no longer responding, only moving briefly, or making a typical "click" sound? Not every defect automatically means a total economic loss.

    In many cases, motors can be sent in directly and repaired. In the event of unclear or borderline fault symptoms, however, I recommend a telephone pre-assessment. This allows us to estimate in advance whether a repair appears realistic or whether a total loss may be present.

    After prior consultation, my Troubleshooting Promise applies: I carefully inspect the submitted tubular motor for repairability. If repair is not technically reasonable or economically viable, only the agreed troubleshooting flat rate of €35 plus any return shipping costs will be charged.

    In any case, you will receive a transparent professional assessment and can then decide yourself on the next steps.

    Frequently Asked Questions about Tubular Motor Diagnosis

    Do I need to call before every shipment? No. Many motors can be sent in directly. However, in the case of unclear or unusual fault symptoms, a telephone consultation is recommended.

    When does the Troubleshooting Promise apply? The promise applies after prior coordination if repairability is to be assessed.

    What happens in the event of a total loss? If repair is not reasonable, only the troubleshooting flat rate of €20 plus any return shipping costs will be charged.

    Reset tubular motor & set end positions – optional rental cable

    For resetting to factory settings or re-adjusting the end positions, many 230V tubular motors may require a setting cable – especially when the reset sequence must be triggered via the circuit breaker (fuse) and the motor is not within sight or hearing range. Many drives confirm the reset with a clicking sound or a brief motor movement. With a universally applicable setting & reset rental cable, commissioning or resetting can be carried out in a more controlled manner without having to switch repeatedly between the motor and the fuse box.     Mein somfy WT 50 hatte schlechte Laune, bei geschlossenen Rollo ging 'Auf' nur bei nochmals 'Ab' wieder nach oben. Vom Postweg bis zur Rücksendung war die Reparatur innerhalb einer Woche erledigt. Bei Rücksendung war noch eine Montageanleitung dabei. Unbedingt zu empfehlen, es ist viel nachhaltiger und preiswerter als neu zu kaufen.
